Proactive
Pumping
Don’t wait until you need your pump to learn how to use it
Pumping often becomes important because something changes: returning to work, being away from your baby, needing to protect milk production, introducing bottles, or navigating an unexpected feeding challenge.
Proactive Pumping gives you the foundational knowledge to understand your pump, your body, and the basic principles of pumping before you’re trying to figure it all out under pressure.
Created by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and maternal wellness practitioner, this practical, evidence-informed course takes the information I find myself teaching families again and again and puts it all in one accessible place.

Why This Course is
Essential
.
Pumping is often treated like something parents can simply figure out when they need it. But there is a lot no one tells you until you’re suddenly staring at a pump wondering which flange fits, what settings to use, how often you should pump, or whether what you’re experiencing is actually normal.
You don’t need to become a pumping expert before your baby arrives.
You just need a solid foundation.
This course was designed to give you exactly that: practical pumping education you can learn now and come back to when you need it.
Introduction
Hey there! I’m Kaylee,
I’m an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and maternal wellness practitioner, but before any of those credentials, I was a new mom who found herself unexpectedly needing to pump.
When I was pregnant with my daughter, I took the breastfeeding classes. I learned about latch, positioning, hunger cues, and what breastfeeding was supposed to look like.
What I didn’t learn was how to pump.
After she was born, pumping became a major part of our feeding journey, and I realized very quickly how unprepared I was for something that is incredibly common.
Now, pumping education is something I teach families constantly in my clinical practice.
In fact, part of the reason I created this course is because I’ve had so many consultations where families needed information that really should have been available to them before they were struggling: how their pump works, flange fit, pumping frequency, milk storage, maintaining their equipment, and what is and isn’t normal.
That’s what Proactive Pumping is meant to give you.
Not individualized lactation care. Not a promise that you’ll never run into a feeding challenge.
A strong foundation before you need it.
What You’ll Learn
Understanding Your Pump
Learn how breast pumps work, the differences between common pump types, basic pump settings, and how to use your pump more confidently.
Flange Fit & Pumping Comfort
Understand the basics of flange sizing and fit, what comfortable pumping should feel like, and signs that something may need to be adjusted.
Milk Production & Pumping Frequency
Learn the relationship between milk removal and milk production, when and how often pumping may be needed, and why pumping recommendations aren’t one-size-fits-all.
Breastmilk Storage & Handling
Learn practical guidelines for collecting, storing, freezing, thawing, and handling expressed breast milk.
Common Pumping Challenges
Learn foundational troubleshooting principles, common pumping mistakes, and how to recognize when a problem has moved beyond general education and deserves individualized support.
FOUNDATIONAL EDUCATION. CLINICAL EXPERTISE.
There is an enormous amount of pumping information online, and not all of it is accurate, evidence-informed, or appropriate for every family.
This course was created by Kaylee Costa, MBA, IBCLC, PMH-C, CPST, CHW, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and maternal wellness practitioner whose practice focuses on clinical, holistic perinatal care.
The goal isn’t to overwhelm you with every possible pumping rule or turn you into your own lactation consultant.
It’s to help you understand the fundamentals, recognize what is normal, and know when individualized support may actually be warranted.
Evidence-Informed Education
Foundational pumping education developed through an IBCLC clinical lens.
Practical & Approachable
Learn the information you’re most likely to actually need without unnecessary complexity or information overload.
Know When You Need More
Understand the difference between something you can reasonably troubleshoot with foundational education and something that deserves individualized lactation assessment and care.
